In contemporary societies across the world, people with diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds encounter and share their living and working environment. What kind of language phenomenon arise in such multilinguistic and multicultural societies? What kind of linguistic and educational policies should be adopted in relation to this diversity? How do people use languages and what kind of problems do they encounter in multicultural settings? In this research project, we will ask and reflect upon questions such as these, seeking to understand linguistic phenomena; to examine, assess and propose linguistic, cultural, and educational policies; and to inquire into how to spread social awareness on problems and challenges regarding coexistence in multilinguistic and multicultural societies.

The research project will consist of (1) collaborative research projects on language, culture and society organised by the participating faculty members and graduate students, and (2) advisory sessions centered on the presentations of the students about the progress of their individual research.

Undergraduate students wishing to continue on to master degree program here at Keio-SFC may participate in this research seminar, especially during the last year of undergraduate study. Please consult the seminar coordinator or participating faculty members.

This class focuses on sense of touch. Even though we touch something in daily basis, it is rare for us to pay attentions to somatosensory feedback itself. Recent scientific reserach in embodied cognition suggests that our decision makings are substantially influenced by haptic feedback experienced in our daily life. I expect that looking through the daily life in terms of "touch". It would provide an opportunity to find hidden values that are not consciously realized.

We have to manage ecosystem services and natural capital for sustainable development of human beings, which has become an international consensus since the end of 20 century and was popularized by the Millennium Ecosystem Assessment (MA) in the early 2000s. Natural capital is the world's stock of natural resources. Natural capital assets provide people with a broad range of free goods and services, called ecosystem services, which underpin our economy and society and some of which even make human life possible. Green infrastructure has been widely paid attention as a key concept for wise use and management of ecosystem services. Green infrastructure occurs at all scales. It is most often associated with storm water management systems, which are smart and cost-effective. However, green infrastructure is a bigger concept and is closely associated with many other things.
