The purpose of the seminar is to review ongoing processes of career development for workers in firms. The seminar pays special attention on the "Career Self-Reliance" model, which is an unique perspective to study the issues not from the organizational interests but rather to study the issues from individual personal perspectives. Graduate students and undergraduate students who are interested in studying the Career Development and Design Process are welcomed to the seminar.
The acquisition of communication based foreign language skills, which students can competently practice in their daily life, is the top priority goal of German education at SFC. In this course new topics and grammar will be introduced every week. The learning materials are developed to match the student’s school life, area of study and personal interests while studying at SFC. The steps of the grammar lessons as well as the important subjects are all based on the curriculum at SFC. The students will learn around 10 key sentences as well as 40 to 50 words per week. In one semester they will be freely able to communicate with 100 to 150 key sentences and 700 words. Students who will complete the intensive courses 1 and 2 will be able to acquire all basic German grammar, which will be equivalent to the A2 level of CEFR.
Basic Course1 is for the students who want to learn Chinese as a “Second language” .The textbook and the teaching materials are the same as the one used in Intensive courses. But the size of the class in Basic Course is much larger (30 to 40 students in each class) .
Due to the development of advanced information technology, highly accurate spatial information can be utilized. In urban planning, environmental science and area marketing, using these data, modeling of spatial phenomena and elucidation of phenomena is required to plan and implement detailed measures for individual entities. Particularly in recent years, new academic fields called geostatistics and space econometric economics are being formed, and these methodologies have been applied to its application to environmental science, humanities and social sciences. In this course, students are expected to acquire more advanced spatial modeling techniques through lectures and exercises. Students are expected to exercise by selecting socioeconomic data (population, land price etc.) or environment related data (air pollution observation value, etc.) according to their interest.
In this class, the latest movement of community informatics is introduced, and the meanings, the possibilitis and the problems are considered as well. We will focus especially on “community informatics projects”, which aim to solve the community problems using information technology through the collaboration with various entities such as NPO, corporation, government and university. The class is for those who are interested in urban development making the best use of information technology, community innovation and policy making of community informatics.
Social Finance is defined as different forms of mechanism to mobilize resources for social purpose activities. In the Japanese history, social finance was observed as Mujin or as other forms of corporatism movement. In modern society, ESG investment market has been emerging and Impact Investment has been discussed new trend of social investment, with support of diversified methodologies such as social impact bonds or social impact assessment. The market size has been expanding and it attracts interest of different stakeholders to maximize social impact over conventional investments.
Social Finance as a terminology implys deployment of financial instrument such as loans or equity investments, however, this course includes grant as a form of social finance because social purpose activies involves in non-profit organizations. We also discuss impact of technological evolution such as development of cloud funding platforms.
In this course, students are to understand the context and trends of social finance as well as the forms of potentiality of resoure mobilization for social innvoation, so that you can utilize the knowledge and insight gained in the study to the actual social purpose activities or social businesses.
We overview differential and integral calculus learned at high school. Our aim is to generalize these to functions of several variables. For functions with one variable, first we extend the concept of tangent (linear approximation) to the theory of Taylor (polynomial approximation). As an application, we can solve the extreme problem in detail. For functions of several valuables, derivative is called partial derivative. We extend the theory of Taylor and the extreme problem to functions with several variables. Moreover, we consider integral of functions of several variables, which is called multiple integral. By using this we can obtain volume and area of high dimensional objects.

This course explains the feature and current business model of ICT industry from the global perspective which is transforming its shape very rapidly reflecting technological progress such as 5G, IoT, big data and AI in addition to digitization since 1990s. This course also summarizes competitive and cooperative relationship simultaneously occurred between traditional network providers (telecommunications)/media (e.g. newspaper and television) and platformers (e.g. GAFA) from the perspective of economics and introduce present status and regulatory discussion concerning media converged services. Furthermore, we analyzes the importance of “media localism” based on the economics of information and consider the role of ICT including media localism to solve social issues in the era of aging population.
This lecture introduces the functions of UNIX operating system. UNIX is common and basic operating system of Linux, MacOS and many servicer side operating systems. Understanding the UNIX operating system helps for current computer system. The functions of the operating system are File System, Device I/O, Process management, Memory management, Inter Process Communications, Signaling/Interrupt handling and Network functions (includes TCP/IP protocol stack).

The main objective of this course is to exercise development of web applications based on a framework Ruby on Rails where we use a script programming language Ruby which is becoming popular recently. First, we will learn the language specification and programming techniques of Ruby. Next, we will learn how to use Ruby on Rails, and then make our own practical applications.
This class provides the knowledge and the methodology of the qualitative research, where you will understand the basic process of the social research through the actual small-scale qualitative survey. It is more important to understand how to see things happening in our society than to understand the technique.
"Fieldwork" is a type of qualitative research methods that aims to understand our society and culture. In addition to its practical meaning as a research "technique," it is also important to think about (1) one's "standpoint" in identifying and defining one's own "problems/issues," and about (2) one's "communicative competence" in interpreting the findings and to make the results available to the public.
This course involves the way to acquire meaningful data from the real world as a tool of problem finding and solving. The data source ranges from the space, e.g. environment monitoring, objects around us, which play critical role cyber physical systems, to human as the stakeholder of a problem. Different data sources require different ways to extract data from them, and the correct way must be used to acquire meaningful data. This course overviews social surveys using questionnaire technique, environment monitoring using state-of-art sensing technologies, and data analysis/presentation skills that are common to all the different projects.
Policy issues at urban management.
We study matrices and vectors, in particular, how to solve the simultaneous equation, how to calculate the determinant and the inverse matrices. Moreover,
by abstracting these concepts, we study linear spaces and linear mapping.
Then a matrix can be regarded as a linear mapping. Especially, eigenvalues and eigenvectors of the matrix, and the matrix diagonalization characterize the mapping. We often encounter these concepts in other mathematical fields including statistics.
