Natural & Creative Living Lab: Practicing Research Project
We, Iba Lab, conduct practical academic research on new approaches in order to contribute toward a future where people can live more lively, by creating new ideas, concepts, methods, and media. Our vision is the creative society where people can live their life more naturally, creatively, and delightfully. Our mission is to Inquire about principles hidden in practices with great quality and support practices of people based on the discoveries.
In addition to the B1 (Foundation), the foundation of the Iba Lab, many students gather on Wednesday afternoons (3rd–6th periods) for the Iba Lab B2 Project to practice their research projects (the official timetable shows Wednesday 6th period, but those who participate in the B2 project should not have classes or other schedules from 3rd period to the evening). We will all hold a “loaf of time” together to fully immerse ourselves in the project activities.
From the Spring semester of 2023, Iba Lab will be offered as two Type-B research group, “Kenkyukai,” that will be linked together. Therefore, please read both this B2 syllabus and the B1 syllabus “Natural & Creative Living Lab: Studies on Creative Practice for Supporting Natural and Creative Living” to understand the entire picture.
Community building for co-creation / Practicing projects starting from "I" / Creating social innovations
In this seminar, we will focus on the following two themes, and will conduct research through realistic field practice. We welcome students who already have a field site and who would like to conduct research while diving into the field in the future.
1) "Creation and Practice of Social Innovation in Japan and Southeast Asia
Students will work on designing and implementing projects that incorporate a co-creation approach that goes beyond passive support relationships, with the aim of building a safety net for people in adverse circumstances.
(2) "Exploration of team building techniques for co-creation and practice in the field
Participants will explore team-building techniques for co-creation and learn the specific process of co-creation through practice in their own fields.

Architectural planning, design, construction and social contributions
We aim to solve social problems and open up new possibilities for architecture by working on projects such as disaster relief, exhibitions, and actual construction project.
The program is designed for students who are interested in architecture and design, disaster relief, international organizations, curatorship, and various research projects related to architecture.
Students are expected to take the initiative in your projects and participate in group work.
Collaborative process is a necessary to study architecture. You will need to set aside time for activities outside of class hour and work together to produce results. Through study groups, students will acquire the skills necessary as individuals (2D CAD, 3D CAD, model making, etc.).
The class is designed to be on-campus, but we will use on-line meeting mainly.

Psychoanalysis and Mental Health―pplied psychoanalysis for clinical issues―
discovered by Sigmund Freud. Although psychoanalysis is essentially a method of clinical practice, the SFC's curriculum does not aim to train for clinicians. Therefore, this study group aims at 'psychoanalysis as liberal arts.' One of the two study groups for psychoanalysis, the study group for Psychoanlysis and Mental Healthーapplied psychoanalysis for clinical issuesー deals with especially clinical topics such as dynamic psychiatry, psychosomatic medicine, mental health, mental illness/ disorder, etc. Students themselves actively present literature and research progress based on their own topics of interest and explore the nature of human nature through group discussions.
