With the advent of computers, the nature of design has changed dramatically. Designers are now required to have computational skills, and the design process is shifting from production, where what is envisioned is given form, to conception, where the unexpected is actively accepted.
In this lecture, we will explore the state of design in the computational age through hands-on workshops using classic design tools and design models. Lectures and discussions by leading guests are also scheduled.
In this class, the latest movement of community informatics is introduced, and the meanings, the possibilitis and the problems are considered as well. We will focus especially on “community informatics projects”, which aim to solve the community problems using information technology through the collaboration with various entities such as NPO, corporation, government and university. The class is for those who are interested in urban development making the best use of information technology, community innovation and policy making of community informatics.
In this class, we will focus on structural design (structural planning) rather than structural calculation.
First of all, the relationship between structural design and architectural design will be outlined.
And then the characteristics and methodologies of various categorized structural systems will be studied.
At the same time, students will model various structures using structural analysis software running on Rhinoceros/Grasshopper, and acquire a sense for deciphering the flow of forces by visualizing structural behavior using digital technology.
In order to create safe and comfortable environments, it is necessary to understand
a broad range of engineering technology. Structural design and materials are
especially important for architects. In this course students will examine the
relationships between structural engineering and material science.

The purpose of this lecture is to provide students with concepts and methodologies to design building that can create a comfortable environment with low impact to the environment. The students will learn about relationship between each technology and its impact to architectural/urban space. The lecture will mainly focus on case studies and group discussion to give better understanding along with slide lecture as a basis of the discussion. The slide lecture will provide an international perspective as well as local practice to give a big picture of each technology, and the actual project example to give practical understanding.

The purpose of this class is to consider several themes of past buildings and cities by introducing cases of various ages and cultures. The key issues of the whole class are the locality found in the historical buildings and cities, their transformation process, and the way to understand and interpret them. The examples of different ages and cultures often question our everyday lives. Therefore, this class aims to broaden one's perspectives on buildings and cities by introducing unfamiliar examples.

For more than half a century now, a genome has been a blueprint for the mystery of life. The genome has been treated as one of the primary information in molecular biology. Several technological innovations have drastically reduced the amount of effort spent on determining the genome sequences. Then, "how to use it" has become more important than observing a string of letters. At the same time, however, people have been faced with the difficulty of truly understanding the information written in the genome sequence. The genome is a blueprint, describing all the information that governs the phenomena of life. However, a great deal of further experimentation and verification is required to understand the life systems generated by the interaction of genomic elements. A separate understanding of genome information cannot help us to know the interlocking biological phenomena. This course is designed to provide a systematic introduction to the origins of genomics, the principles of genome designing biology, designable parameters, and usage of the genome. Furthermore, we will discuss and consider the issues that need to addressed to realize the genome designing biology.

This course is designed to train students to conduct world-class neuroscience research on the brain and nervous system, which supports the functions that make us human, such as memory, learning, cognition, perception, and, and movements. The course includes lectures on the measurement principles of many experimental methods in neuroscience (methods for "recording" neural activity such as electroencephalography and electromyography, methods for "stimulating" the central nervous system and peripheral nervous system, and methods for "deducing" neural activity that operates behind the neural activity from behavioral measurements in a computational and experimental psychological manner), as well as a lecture on how these methods are used and how they are applied in neuroscience. The lecture will also discuss how these methods have been used to understand the reality of neural communication, using two papers, which are carefully selected by the lecturers as subjects, in each class. The presenters and discussants of the papers will be assigned in rotation to promote understanding through interactions among the students. In addition, by presenting their own personal views on the impact of their research on the world in the context of the times, the lecturers will show students how to deal with academic papers. Each student will be exposed to high-impact research from a different standpoint, thereby building a foundation for the development of world-class neuroresearch.
We will have this class online by using Zoom.

Objective of this course is to obtain fundamental knowledge on information security to equip with skills to build secure system in business environment.
This course provides fundamental knowledge and skills of information security which widely required for practice and design of Information Technology. This include technology, management, legal issues, certification and privacy issues etc. The newest trends on techniques used by attackers and their countermeasures are to be covered. This course is intended to comply with standardized body of knowledge in information security and students can be prepared for certification such as "information security specialist" or CISSP. Expect students who seek carrier as information technology/information security manager in organizations, consultants, researchers etc.
This class addresses the design and creation of multimedia knowledge bases (image, video, music and text knowledge-bases), data mining and semantic associative processing. The most important objective of this lecture is to develop knowledge and skills for designing and creating multimedia knowledge-bases and multimedia systems with experimental practice. It is essential to study how to analyze, store, retrieve and integrate media data (image, video, music and text) in a knowledge-base system environment. An actual knowledge-base system is used to create experimental multimedia knowledge-bases and applied it to WWW system environments. We also design a meta-level multimedia system with data mining processes for new-multimedia creation.

The entry into force of the Paris Agreement, the adoption of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and the rapid spread of ESG (environmental, social and corporate governance) investment are at a new stage of environmental business. Consider the role that business plays in transitioning to a sustainable, low-carbon society, in light of changes in environmental business and its trends in the world. In addition, you will learn the methods necessary to build an environmental business on the basis of extensive case studies, and actually experience the presentation of business ideas.
In modern society, the preservation and the formation of natural and social environment to improve our well being are urgent challenges. The improvement of productivity and the revitalization of local community in the society are important challenges as well. In such a situation, the current approach that private profits (profit of person or a particular organization) and public profits are opposed will be a bottleneck. A separate approach to pursue private profits only in business and another separate approach to pursue public profits in administration are insufficient. The total design of private and public profits is required for both social entrepreneur and market mechanism to work with to promote the public profits. In this course, you will learn how to plan a new way of living and to execute through establishing a social business for private profits and sustaining to actualize the public profits. Through the case studies in the various fields, you will discuss how to introduce the incentive system to promote private profits, and how to share the value to achieve the public profits. This course includes lecture, discussion and group work.
