This course will investigate Japanese Cultural Identity both from the perspective of the Japanese themselves and how the Japanese are seen by the outside world. Using a variety of print and visual media, we will examine the history of Japanese national identity and how it has changed over time.
Each student will be expected to do a short presentation and write an essay.
