Course Summary

Yakushima is an island located in the south of Kyushu with a circumference of 160 km. It is a rare island with seven mountains over 1,800 m, including Mt. Miyanoura (1,936 m), the highest peak in Kyushu, and vegetation ranging from the laurel forest zone to the subalpine zone. This varied natural environment supports rich biodiversity. In this class, students will understand the natural environment of Yakushima and study its biota.
