Course Summary

This class is for student who plan to be designer. You first learn an 'Earth System Design' from examples from the 1960s taken up in class. And learn the geometry that led to the advantages of those designs and inventions.

This class presents Buckminster Fuller's view of the global world through his design. Fuller is best known as the person who named "Spaceship Earth" and "synergy." This is a class that integrates fine art and mathematics. This class as well introduces his advanced thought about the global environment. But there are books that tell you about it. In this class, you learn his inventions that you cannot learn from books. You learn it by assembling paper craft models. In this way, you learn his engineering of world maps and ultralight structures devised to operate "Spaceship Earth". At the same time, I introduce related technologies that I have been involved in as well. These are improvements over Fuller's technique. In this way, you will acquire a design source that may solve the global problems that you are currently facing.
