Design has changed and expanded its roles over time. The role of architectonics and aesthetics in providing function, form and colour. Research, prototyping, and other roles to improve communication and processes. The role of strategy, business model building and vision definition......
These changes and expansions of roles have generally been developed as techniques by design professionals. On the other hand, as some people say "design is too important to be kept only for designers", nowadays design has also started to be used as a tool open to the general public and applied to creating and improving government services, social movements and the construction of autonomous ecosystems.
Until now, design has mainly played a problem-solving role in order to create what society needs. But can't design be used to create small things that have meaning for an individual, even if they are not necessarily needed by society at the moment?
We are all born with much creativity. However, as we grow up, many of us put invisible shackles on it, thinking that it is a talent of a few. What can design do to help us break these shackles and reclaim our inherit ability?
Context design is an approach to design that focuses on "narratives" or "weak contexts" of individuals and their interpretations. It allows each individual who comes into contact with the design to create his or her own "story". In other words, it is a creative activity and a method of "weaving together" in which the writer intends for the reader's independent involvement and multiple interpretations to emerge. The result is a creative activity in which the writer intends for the reader to become a writer and the consumer to become an expressionist.

In this course, the fundamental principle, theory, methods required to pursue research in information and network field are lectured. By taking this course, students acquire the fundamental theory and technique required in the focused area.
In each week, we will invite IAB scientists, Keio Ph. D students as well as two or three guest speakers, and discuss each topic provided by the speakers. Through this class, students aim to establish their “conceptual frameworks” in modern biology: strategy and the strategic way of thinking.
The aim of this course is to learn the basics and strategies of case study research. This course is designed for those students who would like to conduct researches in the fields of Social Sciences. Students will learn by reading text books and earlier studies, discussion, group work and presentation.Preparation for the lectures and submission of reports are aquired.
The goal of the course are to learn skills of designing case study research, critical reading of research and to improve quality of one's research design.
This course will be organized by seven faculties belonging to CB program.
A main faculty, Dr. Ushiyama, coordinates the course, and seven faculties handle each two-successive classes by rotation. They will introduce research methods and philosophies in their own research fields through lectures, workshops, and group works.
This lecture will be divided into two parts:
The first part will focus on climate risk reduction. With specific examples from different tools, the lecture will focus on climate change adaptation with cases from developing countries.
This class is organized by researchers from not only inside cyber-informatics division in SFC, but also outside SFC. All the speakers are at the top class. The topics include communication, security, visualization, data, interaction.
Students in the XD program will be required to make presentations about the progress of their research. Since the 1990s, while the world has experienced the wave of globalism, it has simultaneously been haunted by the rise of regional conflicts that had erupted subsequent to the end of the Cold War. Concurrently, the international community has been facing threats emanating from the so-called failed states, mainly due to the former's inability to stabilize the situation. Furthermore, counter measures introduced by individual states to deal with challenges represented by global warming and contagious diseases like Ebola will remain less effective if not conducted comprehensively and collectively through international and/or regional institutions or forums. This class will consider a variety of issues that require multilateral mechanism of governance.
This class aims for enhancing your understanding of contemporary international political economy mainly in Northeast Asia (also expands in East Asia, Asia-Pacific and Indo-Pacific) through examining theories of regionalism/regional integration, policy frameworks and practices.
