Chinese sociolinguistics
This class will approach the Chinese language from a sociolinguistic angle. Sociolinguistics is a field that attempts to elucidate language in terms of its relationship with society, and its research targets range from familiar linguistic phenomena to language variation, multilingual use, language inheritance, language policy, language services, and more.
My own research topics that I have worked on/am working on include language policy for ethnic minorities, language evaluation attitudes, language use attitudes, attitudes toward the use of nominal terms for women, language services in Nagano Prefecture, and strategies for "refusal" in Chinese. In addition, the acquisition of sociolinguistic competence has become one of the most important topics in foreign language education. Therefore, this study group will also treat research on Chinese language education as one important issue.
The workshop will operate in the following sequence
(1) Students will read and critically analyze the literature related to the theme that they (or their team) will address in their project.
(2) Divide into projects, formulate themes, and derive hypotheses.
(3) Design and conduct effective research to substantiate hypotheses.
(4) Summarize the results of the investigation and report the findings.
Next generation information Infrastructure and applications
The main research theme is research and development of information systems related to the Internet.
We will carry out research activities that research and development of protocols, such as IPv6-related, computer systems, security, and distributed systems, which are the next-generation core protocols, and the global expansion of research results developed through international standardization.
Intersubjectivity
Apply the knowledge of clinical psychology and psychoanalysis to various psychological themes and work on them in a practical and experiential manner.
Psychoanalysis
This study group is based on the psychoanalytic worldview discovered by Sigmund Freud. Although psychoanalysis is essentially a method of clinical practice, the SFC's curriculum does not aim to train for clinicians. For this reason, this study group aims at 'psychoanalysis as a liberal arts'. Through research presentations and group discussions by students on themes related to individual or group/organization in which students are interested, we are going to explore the nature of human beings.
Administrative legal system and theory
The area covered by this seminar is general administrative law. It covers not only the problems related to administrative case litigation and the theory of administrative law, but also the latest problems related to administrative systems and policy making.
If necessary, we may invite an expert as a guest speaker. And if the conditions are met, we are also considering making policies regarding local governments in Japan at this seminar.
Depending on your wishes, you can select a wide range of research subjects in general law, so please consult with me.
In Search of Future of Organizations
Mission: In Search of Future of Organizations
Organizations increasingly rely on technologies to operate, organize, and innovate in this AI/big data era. Also, radical changes in the society such as issues related to diversity, inclusion, equity, sustainability, environment, and governance have huge impacts on how we (should) manage organizations. We collectively explore the future of organizations, which is a frontier of management studies and practice. Topics include future of work, new organizational forms, digital organizational culture, decentralized autonomous organizations, diversity and inclusion management, people analytics, collective intelligence and open innovation. We approach these themes from various perspectives and methods including (but not limited to) qualitative case studies and data science, and project works with business partners in the real world.
Research Group on Meteorology
You learn the basis of Meteorology and Climate science and discuss their application to various industrial fields in our laboratory. You determine your research theme by yourself.
Study for the Groundlogy
The Kenkyukai to explore the applied practice of "landscape thinking" advocated by Hajime Ishikawa.

Second Language Acquisition, Cross-cultural Communication and Foreign Language Education
In this seminar, students will discuss and explore the process of second language learning and teaching through studying textbooks and research articles. Students will learn how to conduct research such as how to develop research themes and research questions, how to design research, and data analysis, as well as how to write a research paper. Students will work on their individual studies, giving each other feedback in weekly discussions. This lab has 20-25 students including graduate students, and most of them have had experience living or studying abroad and are proficient speakers of English.
Discussions can be conducted in both English and Japanese, and I am hopeful that both Japanese and international students can improve English and Japanese proficiency respectively by being in this seminar. We have guest speakers and lectures have been given in English most of the time.
Reference books will be recommended for the new students.
Real-world interface design
We are living in the Internet age using PCs and smartphones, but we are looking forward to using the net everywhere, with advanced computers, networks, and devices. In this seminar, we try to find various new interaction techniques for the coming age, where everybody can use Web resources everywhere without learning special techniques for handling computers.
Social Choice Theory
In recent years, we have not only read in detail textbooks dealing with the social choice theory and the application of game theory to public choice, but also examined the decision analysis beyond "rational choice", for example, the Gilboa's decision theory. In this semester, we will read a research book on social choice theory.
I hope to encourage competition among the participants of my seminar and build a tense relationship to work hard together.
