The main purpose of this class is to increase Chines skill by using papers about present China’s foreign policy history written in Chinese.. In these years, China is recognized as a superpower in international society. But China was established just 70years ago and was poor and weak power at that time. At that time, no one imagined China become such a power- full country. So, how China struggled to survive in international society and become a one of the most powerful nations? In this class, we are going to use the documents about China’s foreign policy in 1950’s~90’.
But on the other hand, the main purpose of this class is to increase Chines skill by using papers about China’s foreign policy written in Chinese.

The purpose of this class is to practice actual speaking for those who have completed Korean Intensive 2 or have the same Korean proficiency.
You will mainly learn Korean idioms.

The main theme of this course is Grammar Analysis for Communication.
We will review some grammar theme (B1 to C1 level) from communicative point of view.
The aim is not to study grammar rules, but to understand how grammatical forms relates to the communicative intention.
The linguistic unit of analysis is the sentence (subject + verb), but we will try go beyond the structural analysis using a framework of information about the context of the sentence (context, speaker, recipient, message). Specially we analyze the relationship between the grammatical form and the speaker's intention (intención comunicativa) and how the recipient is likely to receive the message.

Japanese Language Skills 1C (Contemporary Society) is a class for students who are in the first half of their advanced level of Japanese. The goal of this course is to help students understand contemporary society and community, especially SFC as a learning community, and to enable them to learn better at SFC. Specific activities will include reading texts about SFC and learning at SFC, discussing the contents, and writing opinion papers on the topic. Vocabulary, kanji, and grammar related to the theme will also be studied.
This course is designed for students at the lower advanced level of Japanese and focuses on the training of writing skills. In this course, students will learn advanced Japanese writing skills that their reader(s) will understand easily what they want to convey. Also, students will be required to write essays, so that they will have confidence in their academic writing skills to attend lectures conducted in Japanese.
This class is Japanese Skill 2W, Written Expression ( Advanced ). This class focuses on Japanese writing expressions and styles, especially those used in reports and thesis. The goal is to be able to write reports on your own, using various resources.
This is a Level-A Project English course. Its main focus is on the development of active listening skills including those related to TOEIC. The course takes place on campus; and it uses pre-recorded conversations and other simulation elements as learning methods. In addition to listening activities, students also practice basic speechmaking techniques.
In this course you will have a chance to learn about people in Japan who are doing good for Japan's future in terms of protecting the environment, building communities and setting up a viable business. You will also have a chance to discuss with students from foreign countries. You will learn, watch and hear about their daily lives and work.

All four skills of the test will be covered but more time will be spent developing the productive skills (speaking and writing). We will study the assessment criteria and look at ways to increase band scores in each skill.
In this presentation class we examine different styles of presentations and look at various strategies and techniques that presenters use to persuade an audience. We study a range of examples from sales to TED style motivational presentations and students use these models to help them deliver media assisted presentations during the semester. Students choose their own topics. During the semester there are two group presentations and one individual presentation. At the end of the course, students should be able to give well structured, media assisted presentations in English in a variety of different styles.

This course aims to develop students’ listening ability and students’ recognition, understanding and use of the parts of speech in English. Students will listen to contemporary rock and pop songs at natural speed in order to get accustomed to phonological changes in, rhythms, pitch and intonation of English as it appears in songs. Students will also learn abbreviations, phrases, and expressions typically found in English song culture. The ultimate goal of this course is to develop students’ listening ability so that they can grasp listening for specific information.
Throughout this Grammar through Rock and Pop Music course, students will be exposed to and given practice with the parts of speech in English through cloze activities based on some of the biggest selling rock or pop music. Over the final weeks of the course, student-generated material will be utilized in class.
This course involves pair-work and small group group-work to complete tasks, exercises, and activities, and vocabulary related to rock and pop music and genres will also be looked at throughout the course.
The goal of this class is to enable students to explain modern Japanese culture in their own words. This semester, we will particularly focus on the seasonal events and customs that give life in Japan a yearly rhythm. Students will learn to explain these in English and give presentations both in groups and alone.
In this class students will take part in discussions as well as debates to enhance their English and communication skills.
This class is suitable for students who enjoy reading and feel challenged to analyze the stories and use imagination to write further to develop the stories. The selection chosen for this class are taken from the work of famous writers with diverse cultural and ethnic background, and protagonists with variety of moods, styles, subjects, and themes. Students will read short fictions ranging from 500 to 3,000 words that are appropriate in content and vocabulary, engaging and relatively easy to comprehend.

In this class, we will discuss various stereotypes that exist in cultures around the world focusing on those most familiar to us. The goal of this class is to help you see people as individuals rather than only as members of a group, and to challenge the way you think about social interaction.This is an active participation class: students will need to join in the discussion every day for participation credit. Use of PCs or smartphones is not allowed unless specific permission is given. Paper and electronic dictionaries are allowed, but smartphone-based dictionaries are prohibited.
