Course Summary

Oze National Park is located in Gunma, Tochigi, Niigata, and Fukushima prefectures, and is a relatively new national park that was separated from Nikko National Park in 2007. The park is characterized by mountainous areas such as Mt. Shibutsu and wetlands such as Ozegahara. Ozegahara, in particular, is a wetland relatively close to the Tokyo metropolitan area, where visitors can enjoy wetland plants such as Asian skunk cabbage, attracting many tourists. In recent years, however, the number of visitors has been declining, characterized by the fact that elderly people account for the majority of visitors. In this project, participants will study the natural environment of Oze National Park and discuss its conservation and tourism as a means of regional development.
