Course Summary

This special research project is meant to host an exhibition for four days at Kamakura Gallery located on Kamakura mountain. Students will learn the actual procedures of hosting an exhibition by designing, running, hosting a reception, and getting feedback from visitors.

Recent exhibitions in contemporary art are not limited to enjoying still drawings from the early 20th century. Artists can use multiple media that can dynamically change in time and space. In addition, the change in the exhibition environment can also be included, so that visitors can be a part of the artwork to finalize the experience.
Considering such diverse changes in contemporary art, one clue to consider in the
exhibition is to include the bodily experience of humans. From this standpoint, students
are going to address the question of what the exhibition can provide bodily experience to exhibition visitors. Students will curate exhibition materials, design the space of the exhibition, and execute the exhibition itself including hosting a reception during the period of the exhibition.
