Course Summary

This is a project working in the field in Kiso Town, Nagano Prefecture. Kiso Town consists of three main areas: Kiso, Hiyoshi, and Kaida. Children living in this area spend most of their time with a group of 10 or so classmates from preschool to junior high school, which limits their opportunities to experience diversity, and many of them have difficulty adjusting to their new environment and often experience hardship when they enter higher education or find employment. Therefore, this project, as part of the Shinshu Community School, is designed to revitalize the local community through "education," and to promote students' understanding of the community in which they live and of themselves, and to provide them with opportunities to become familiar with the diversity of the world and other cultures, while being part of their diverse learning experience. The project is operated with the aim of both promoting understanding of the community in which they live and themselves, and creating opportunities for students to become familiar with diversity and different cultures around the world. In addition, Kiso Town is planning to integrate the currently existing Kiso-cho Junior High School, Hiyoshi Junior High School, and Kaida Junior High School in three years' time, and we expect that this will provide an opportunity for junior high school students to interact with each other. In doing so, they also look to deepen their understanding of the regions in which they live. In order to achieve these goals, the workshop plans to conduct interviews with adults who are working to revitalize the town and make the area more attractive, and to create a "Kiso Town Attractive Person Card" to rediscover the charms of the area.
