Course Summary

This is a new endowed course/ special course (donated by Aizawa Koatsu Concrete Co., Ltd.) starting in 2023. In this lecture, instead of throwing away used items, we will use the term “tensho (in Japanese)” to introduce a new “story” in creating and circulating new uses by changing their shape. With point cloud data from 3D scanning, generative AI such as ChatGPT, and Yamato Kotoba (original Japanese language) as design partners, we have acquired a new world view and re-perceived objects as individual objects with more individuality than just objects.

This lecture deals with concrete material as a subject. In addition, we will set the task of "reincarnation (tensho)" of the "SFC Media Center", which is the most familiar concrete building for SFC students. In the form of group work, we will go back and forth between concrete, which is a substance with mass, and the massless world of point cloud data that has been digitized, and from there we will envision the shape of the future "media garden" and "media space".

You should watch this movie for further understanding.
