Detail

Course Summary

Mathematics is connected to various creative fields such as design and crafts. The relevance of mathematics is evident in some fields that are closely related to technology, such as media arts. But even in traditional crafts, which may at first seem unrelated to what is commonly perceived as "scientific," mathematics is often revealed when the underlying structures are unraveled. This seminar focuses on the application of mathematics to the creative process. Specifically, it aims to study instances of creative work that involve the application of mathematics, and seeks to create prototypes based on mathematical methods. Collaborations with companies and artists are also part of the planned agenda.
