Computational Creativity - Artificial Intelligence and Creativity

_How can we use computers and other artificial systems to break the limitation of our imagination and enhance human creativity? Computational Creativity is a multidisciplinary research field to tackle this very question._

In this course, students will learn the basics of AI techniques such as Deep Learning and explore the possibility of various applications of it in the field of art (media art, sound art, music, graphics, literature, fashion design etc.). Through both technical aspects of AI and aesthetics of the artistic expressions, we'll try to critically contemplate the impact of AI on human beings as we know now and the society of the future.

Our seminar consists of the following three activities:

    [Goup Project]
We have four internal group projects (Music Generation, AI Visuals, AI Media Art, the future of DJ). You'll join one (or multiple if you wish) of them and work with your teammate. I hope you can deepen your understandings of the field by working actively on the project.

    [Personal Proejct]
Besides the group projects, I expect you to work on a small personal project within the field of Computational Creativity. We are going to organize brainstorming sessions to help you to choose the topic.

    [Book reading club]
To understand and discuss the impact of new technologies from broader perspectives, you have mandatory reading assignments. This semester, we will read the following two books: Richard Dawkins's "Selfish Genes" and Kevin Kelly's "Technium."

Social Cloud Robotics - From Symbiotic and Collaborative Robots to Robots that Develop Together -

What exactly is a robot that does not give discomfort to us and we can easily accept its existence as a part of everyday life? Now we obtain capabilities to access ubiquitous information spaces and our human ability and cognitive performance will be gradually enhanced. Robots will also be integrated well into the human life and helping us naturally. They will have rich sensory perception and expressive facial signals, and are going to be social partners for us. In this laboratory, we are discussing what kind of “sociality” robots should have in human robot interactions (HRI).

    Intercultural Communication -A critical perspective

This seminar aims to explore and examine our intercultural communication from a critical perspective. Culture is in fact influenced by economic and political issues which create unequal relations of power between peoples. Therefore, it is imperative that we understand the politics at work in an intercultural context and develop critical literacy. We will examine intercultural communication throughout reading and discussing a book or some articles. Students will also conduct a research/project on related topics to assigned literature or graduate thesis.

Students can approach everything related to the landscape. This seminar's keywords are below; ecology, city and rural planning, garden and park, urban green space, civil vitalization, land-use change, environmental education, reconstruction in the disaster field, disaster prevention, and land use plan in a river basin. All students have their own themes. Some students hold a presentation in each class. If you require to join a project, please see the syllabus of the seminar "Green Infrastructure." In this seminar, we will also emphasize discussion of the presentations. In addition, this seminar requires students to read a lot of articles and books.
