Cyber Crime Prevention Education and Public Safety Policy

In this research group, we conduct cybercrime prevention education and research with a focus on volunteer educational activities (workshops) where students teach internet safety to elementary, middle, and high school students. Additionally, we explore and study effective policies related to various issues concerning societal safety.
Furthermore, our research group is unique in that it not only engages in research activities related to cybercrime prevention education and social safety policy, but also provides an opportunity to “apply” the knowledge gained through individual research by offering special classes to elementary, middle, and high school students.

    Intercultural Communication -A critical perspective

In the "Intercultural Communication - A Critical Perspective" seminar, we delve into the complexities surrounding culture, language, ethnicity/nationality/race, gender, and class, as well as identity, othering and representation, in intercultural communication. Culture is not a fixed entity, but rather one that is shaped by various groups and their respective power dynamics. This means that our intercultural communication is often influenced by invisible and taken-for-granted aspects of power. Therefore, it is crucial to gain a critical understanding of these power dynamics. Then, we can address imbalanced power relations and empower us to creatively seek alternative possibilities beyond the status quo.
We will explore the issues through reading and discussing books/videos/articles. Students will also conduct a project/ research on related topics by themselves or with other members of the seminar.

    Intercultural Communication -A critical perspective

This seminar explores and examines our intercultural communication from a critical perspective. Culture is, in fact, influenced by economic and sociopolitical issues that create unequal power relations between peoples. Therefore, it is imperative that we understand the power at work in an intercultural context and develop critical literacy. Then, we can confront unequal power relations and have the agency to create positive change. We will explore the issues regarding ethnicity/nationality/race/biculturalism, language, gender, and class, through reading and discussing books/videos/articles. Students will also conduct a project on related topics.

    Intercultural Communication -A critical perspective

In the 'Intercultural Communication -A critical perspective’ seminar, we explore the issues regarding culture, ethnicity/nationality/race, language, gender, class, and identity in intercultural communication. Culture is not a fixed entity but is created, negotiated, and contested by multiple parties and power interests. Our intercultural lives and encounters are deeply intertwined with various forms of power that often go unnoticed. Therefore, it is important that we understand the power at work in an intercultural context and develop critical literacy.

This seminar aims to explore and examine our intercultural communication from a critical perspective. Culture is in fact influenced by economic and political issues which create unequal relations of power between peoples. Therefore, it is imperative that we understand the politics at work in an intercultural context and develop critical literacy. We will examine intercultural communication throughout reading and discussing a book or some articles. Students will also conduct a research/project on related topics to assigned literature or graduate thesis.
