The purpose of this course is to examine the diversity of language and culture through Chinese. China has a large population, vast territory and abundant cultures. Every region has its own cultural background and linguistic habits. PUTONGHUA is only one of the many aspects present in the Chinese language. In order to make you learn about the internal diversity of Chinese, I will introduce dialects, especially the form spoken in Taiwan. And then, through the contrast between Chinese and other languages, you can develop your understanding of Chinese while familiarizing yourself with the differences of the cultures behind those languages.
This course presents a theoretical analysis of Japan’s public finance covering expenditure and revenue analysis. Japan’s local public finance is linked to the national finance, so we analyze the relationship between central and local governments. The course equips students to analyze the Japanese economy comprehensively from various viewpoints.
The purpose of this course is to look at “Multilingual Society and Communication” from various angles and illustrate the various linguistic phenomena that can be observed. The course will focus especially on the examination of Japan as a multilingual society. It is also the goal of this course to develop sensitivity for the diversity of languages. Following issues are to be discussed:
- language policy and language planning
- language rights
- language spread
- language education
- language contact
- maintenance, loss and revitalization of minority languages
- linguistic imperialism and monolingual hegemony
- bilingualism, multilingualism and diglossia
- code switching
- pidgin and creole languages
- History of Japanese language education
「都市」と「建築」は、人間が長い時間をかけて作り出してきた人工環境の中でも特に人々の生活・活動を引き受ける空間的な器としてかたちづくられ、人間のさまざまな営みを支えてきた。建築(architecture)は、その目的に応じて住宅、宮殿、宗教建築(社寺や教会)、公共施設(劇場、美術館、市役所)などさまざまな類型に分類され,またその材料や架構によって大小各種の空間を作り出してきた。建築が集合し、人々が集って居住する都市(city)も、その成立基盤に従って城下町や港町などに分かれ,規模や装いを違えている。いずれも長い歴史に裏づけられ、その文化的背景に応じた形式と様式をそなえてきた。本授業は、建築と都市の歴史的側面に特に着目し、その発展を追うと同時に、それぞれの時代背景に応じた基本語彙,空間言語を習得することを目的としている。
This course is a two-period, intensive course that combines lectures, exercises, and group work to experience experiments and research on basic concepts, theories, and models in marketing and consumer research. This year, we will take up the development of university education services as an issue and examine "Analysis and Strategy of Market Environment", "Consumer Purchasing Decision", "Consumption Pattern Analysis", "Price and Promotion", "Brand Building" and "New Products and Popularization". Participants will be asked to present their marketing plans at the final debriefing session (as a group) and to submit a report on each survey/experiment (as an individual).
This class deals with issues concerning “learning” in a very broad sense, which includes almost all knowledge and skill that is acquired through one’s own experience or instructions. For example it includes learning of native and non-native language, literacy, everyday concepts and scientific concepts. It also includes various types of skills, such as sports, playing musical instruments, performing art, and fine arts. The goal of the class is to gain understanding of cognitive mechanisms through which learners acquire knowledge and skills. Based on this understanding, the class discusses ideal forms of learning and education in and outside classrooms.
- How do we view the size the color, and the depth of objects?
- How do we accumulate experiences and learning?
- How do we feel body and beauty?
These questions are contained in the question of how do we perceive and cognize the inside and outside of the body. This lecture will approach the laws of perception and cognition.
*Students can know some aspects of formulating the mysteries represented by concepts and formulas and predicting the phenomenon of perception and cognition by using the model* to take the lecture.
Based on the mental model dealt in the course of Personality Development, we will discuss how inner psychic world is evolve from infancy, childhood, adolescence to adulthood through active interaction with environment. From modern psychoanalytic perspectives, I pick up topics such as family, narcissism, identity, PTSD, and object loss. Using materials from drama, novel, non-fiction, and guest lectures' talk, this course aims at students' deep understanding of mental environment.
The purpose of this class is to understand the perceptual-motor skills in human motor behavior like a sports considering relationships between human, task, and environment from the field of the sports psychology.

How do people choose words or expressions to communicate with others successfully? Further, what kind of difficulties are experienced if such acts are done in a second language(L2)? This lecture will survey how adult learners acquire L2. Students will learn theories of L2 acquisition and study issues involving communications from theoretical and practical positions. I welcome students who are interested in cross-cultural communication and pragmatics as well as second language acquisition (SLA) research.
This course focuses on corporate legal issues. Companies need to overcome a numerous kinds of complex and advanced problems in order to create value by cooperating with other companies, such as M&A activities. The objective of this course is to give students an introduction to Critical Legal Thinking and Practical Legal Methods to handle issues associated with co-creation activities by corporations. The topics will address from very fundamental and essential issues of Corporate Governance and Finance to the latest issues of M&A, Venture Investment, and Joint Venture. The style of the course is lecture and class activity. It is expected to analyze issues deeply in the class although class activities will complete in the class. In the co-creation activities like M&A, companies solve problems by putting variety of knowledge of professions in different fields such as management, finance, tax and legal. In this course, too, employing interdisciplinary approaches will enable students to obtain deep insights and provide solutions for the issues.
By the Soviet Perestroika which was started by Gorbachev in the mid of 1980s, the communist regimes of the world had great shook. Then, the Soviet Union was collapsed in the end of 1991, most of the former USSR the Eastern European countries abandoned communism; and the dream of communism seemed to be disappeared. However, the many communist regimes have been kept in East Asia and Southeast Asia, although many of their system have been modified. In addition, many of the former USSR states have been keeping the undemocratic regimes, and some of them are almost same to the communist regime in the different names. On the other hand, the pressures of democratization have been given not only from the international society, but from the people in some states, although there are many opinions if such pressures would be effective or not.
In this course, we will try to compare the political systems focusing on the political changes of the former USSR states after the end of cold war.
In addition, the US presidential election will be held during this academic term, so I am planning to have guest speech on this issue.
Arab countries and the Middle East are still unfamiliar to many Japanese and are often subject to prejudice and misunderstanding. In the first half of this lecture, students learn basic knowledge about the Middle East and Muslim world, with special focus on Arab countries. Then in the second half, looking back on about 10 years since the so-called 'Arab Spring' in which protests by citizens calling for the overthrow of the long-lasting dictatorship spread among Arab countries, we examine how the people in the Arab countries attempted to change their society, while appreciating the cultural and artistic works created in the process.

本科目英語主体です。授業目的は、、戦後から現在に至るアジアで行われた開発の理論や事業においての一般市民や共同体レベルへの影響の理解を身に付ける。とりわけ東南アジアや東アジア諸国の開発と国際事業・外部者の計画については、現地の人へ影響及ぼした失敗例や不利の原因を探求する。具体的には、先ず様々な国際開発理論や構想やこれらへの批判を把握したうえ、「参加型開発」と呼ばれるローカルな共同体での生活・生計、生産地の環境保全、移住労働、そして新たな雇用機会先でのジェンダーバランスに関わる自らの問題への答えや構想の構成について、研究して行く。

This decision making process is "risk management."
There are many financial instruments for risk management such as insurance, annuities, and derivatives, provied by insurance company and financial institutions, regulated by the authority.
In this class, students will learn investments, corporate finance and basic theory of finance. They will be able to learn practical skill.
The first goal is to understand the fundamentals of microeconomics and macroeconomics that form the basis of economics with certainty. The economic thinking is unexpectedly simple (this can be said for both microeconomics and macroeconomics), students will acquire representative analytical techniques such as constrained maximization (minimization) and comparative statics.
Then, when viewing the real economy, it is the second goal to get a first understanding of what points to focus on and how to use theoretical tools. Also, I would like to mention the latest topics within the scope of time.
Local government in Japan consists of 47 prefectures and 1,718 municipalities (City, Town and Village). Before HEISEI Merger, the number of municipalities was over 3,000. Difficulty of public finance forced reform of municipalities. Yubari city, Hokkaido is the only bankruptcy municipality in Japan now. In future, some municipality will face the same difficulty.
This class provides the understanding a general and a specific topics of the public finance of local government. Students investigate the accounting reports.
Theory and Analysis of Public Finance for Central Government
This course aims to understand the standard knowledge and theory of public finance, which is the study of revenue and expenditure of the country, and to consider the important fiscal issues surrounding our country today. Individually, we will examine what constitutes a fair tax system with respect to social security systems (e.g. medical care, public pension system and social welfare) and the tax system, which tends to be biased in its historical context.
Using microeconomics and game theory mainly, the public choice explains political phenomena, analyzes interdependence between polity and economy, and clarifies the basis of legal system and social norm. Adopting the analytical methods of microeconomics and game theory here means that the public choice basically depends on the hypothesis that people and organizations behave to maximally achieve their specific objectives under given conditions.
In this lecture, in order to place emphasis on having students understand the basic idea of public choice, we will not carry out detailed technical explanation as a rule. However, because it is necessary to respond well to the intellectual requirements of graduate students, somewhat advanced contents may be included for undergraduates.
