Oze National Park is located in Gunma, Tochigi, Niigata, and Fukushima prefectures, and is a relatively new national park that was separated from Nikko National Park in 2007. The park is characterized by mountainous areas such as Mt. Shibutsu and wetlands such as Ozegahara. Ozegahara, in particular, is a wetland relatively close to the Tokyo metropolitan area, where visitors can enjoy wetland plants such as Asian skunk cabbage, attracting many tourists. In recent years, however, the number of visitors has been declining, characterized by the fact that elderly people account for the majority of visitors. In this project, participants will study the natural environment of Oze National Park and discuss its conservation and tourism as a means of regional development.

Research on landscape as a regional resource

We will research rural landscape as a regional asset by surveying the landscape of rural villages, interviewing local residents, and talking to the local government in Kamiyama-cho, Nasai-gun, Tokushima Prefecture.
As the concept of "cultural landscape" suggests, a landscape is an expression of the overall system that includes the natural environment of the area and the livelihood of its inhabitants, and its preservation requires "dynamic conservation" to maintain and pass on the system that makes the landscape possible. However, the system itself has not been visualized in an easy-to-understand form, nor have methods and value criteria been established to determine what is to be preserved in the local landscape. Careful investigation, analysis, examination, and discussion are necessary to understand the local landscape.
Kamiyama is known for the beauty of its mountainous rural landscape of terraced rice paddies, terraced fields, and farmland along the Ayukuro River, but with plans to attract satellite offices of IT companies and a private technical college, rapid changes in the local landscape are expected. Currently, the town is considering formulating its first landscape plan.
In this project, with the cooperation of the Kamiyama Tsunagu Public Corporation, we will stay in Kamiyama to conduct a landscape survey of the area and prepare basic data for the study of the landscape plan. Through the survey, the participants will also learn fieldwork methods.

The research targets enrolled in this attempt are the students who take charge of coaching for the sport team members of SFC. The student-coaches apt to be caught in dilemmas because they are not the managers but also not the players. They do not have much power as the managers have, and they are on an equal footing with the players. However, they are required to instruct the team members. Given these circumstances with the dilemmas, what kinds approaches effective for student-coaches to get the players motivated? We are going to pursue the efficacious methods through the practical examinations.

In August 2019, in conjunction with the establishment of the Laboratory for Learning and Education in the Age of Society 5.0 (President: Kan Hiroshi Suzuki) at the SFC Research Institute, we will be focusing on "co-education to nurture people who create a new world" in addition to the traditional theme of "fostering social producers who graduate from the modern age to create a new world. In August 2019, in conjunction with the establishment of the Social 5.0 Era Learning and Education Laboratory (President: Kan Hiroshi Suzuki) at the SFC Research Institute, we have added to the objectives of the research group the study of "co-education to nurture people who will create a new world" in addition to the conventional "nurturing of social producers who will graduate from modernity and create a new world," and the actual conception, planning, and realization of co-education projects.

Then, in the spring of 2020, as part of a project to make Hagi City in Yamaguchi Prefecture more attractive to the local community, we began to support high school students in their exploratory studies. Specifically, in collaboration with the city's Board of Education and school teachers, we are running inquiry courses for high school students in Hagi and Mitoyo. Through these activities, we are in the process of creating a model case of creating new learning together with the local community and schools in order to nurture the "creative power" of students, who are the leaders of the future. In addition, there are plans to collaborate with the Niseko City Board of Education in Hokkaido.

As we move forward in the midst of such a period of change, we are now conducting a special research project in Hokkaido, with the aim of pursuing, practicing, and collaborating on further possibilities for inquiry-based learning with the local community.

    Our Project Case Study
In collaboration with the city of Hagi, Yamaguchi Prefecture, we are making proposals for realizing inquiry-based learning in the local community and conducting actual courses. The goal is to build a model for creating new learning together with the community and schools. In addition to deepening and developing the program for high school students in Hagi City, we are planning to collaborate with the Niseko City Board of Education.

Support for the informatization of education: Elementary and junior high schools across Japan are working hard to realize the GIGA school concept promoted by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology and to overcome the effects of COVID 19. We are building a model to support such educational sites. We plan to collaborate with the Shibuya Ward Board of Education and others.

In addition to deepening our understanding of the latest trends in education and co-education, including the new Courses of Study and OECD Education 2030, we will discuss various issues related to education and co-education, and share our sense of real issues with players active in the field of education and co-education.

Marine resources -> Support a start-up business (Shichiken Suisan) launched by seminar students to support the sustainability of the fishing industry. Support a start-up business (Shichiken Suisan) started by a seminar student to support the sustainability of the fishery industry. There is a possibility of working with NGOs to protect endangered fish species.

Support for the Shibuya Startup Deck → Creating an art and creative start-up ecosystem in Shibuya, promoted by Shibuya Ward.

Participation in the Toyooka Theater Festival: In order to explore new possibilities for performing arts, we will present our new style of performing arts at the Toyooka Theater Festival to be held in September 2021. Collaboration with the University of Tokyo's Gakugei Feito Seminar.

In August 2019, in conjunction with the establishment of the Laboratory for Learning and Education in the Age of Society 5.0 (President: Hiroshi Suzuki) at the SFC Research Institute, we will be focusing on "co-education to nurture people who create a new world" in addition to the traditional theme of "fostering social producers who graduate from the modern age to create a new world. In August 2019, in conjunction with the establishment of the Social 5.0 Era Learning and Education Laboratory (President: Hiroshi Suzuki) at the SFC Research Institute, we have added to the objectives of the research group the study of "co-education to nurture people who will create a new world" in addition to the conventional "nurturing of social producers who will graduate from modernity and create a new world," and the actual conception, planning, and realization of co-education projects.

The program has also been expanded to include Mitoyo City in Kagawa Prefecture. In addition, there are plans to collaborate with Niseko City, Hidaka Town, and Anpei Town in Hokkaido.

As we move forward in the midst of such a period of change, we will use Hokkaido as the field for this special research project, with the aim of pursuing, practicing, and collaborating on further possibilities for inquiry-based learning with the local community.

This special research project is an introductory subject to Korean Studies. Needless to say, it is essential to understand Korean from the perspective of regional research to study South Korea and its extended areas. On the other hand, learning Korean may further develop into the study of the language itself, that is, the study of Korean. In this project, for those who have taken Korean language, we will specifically learn the pattern of developing Korean language into (1) area studies and (2) the pattern of developing it as research on the language itself.
Although the full-time faculty members of the Korean language laboratory have different research fields, we will explain how they face Korean and conduct daily research as a research tool and as a research target, with episodes. A mini-lecture by graduate students (master's and doctoral) is also planned.
Lectures by guests invited from outside include (1) graduates who learned Korean at SFC as beginners and are still active in society using Korean, and (2) former full-time teachers who were in charge of Korean language education at SFC. (3) Researchers who practice language and regional studies have been on the stage so far. In this project, we will watch some interesting Korean movies and deepen our understanding of Korea in recent years through movies.
Students will carry out group work when their intellectual curiosity about Korean society has increased. Students who have similar interests will form a group, conduct research activities, and then give a group presentation. After having a discussion with all participants, prepare and submit a personal research report.
Through a series of work, it is our hope that students will be able to rediscover the significance and goals of learning Korean and discover each "way" that will lead to further research activities.
